| Point of departure |
Tine Wilde starts from the presupposition that the purpose of art and philosophy is to enrich ourselves and the world. Art as well as philosophy is about bringing something to consciousness in such a way that it enables us to assign meaning to ourselves and the world. For this reason, her inquiry into facts and values concerning social practices and cultural attitudes is triggered by questions rather than answers. |
| Philosophy |
The question which sets off the artistic inquiry is a conceptual question. And the artistic outcome is put into perspective through philosophical analysis. In this way, philosophy provides the framework in which the temporariness of the work of art, i.e., the installation, is being challenged. The installation, in turn, offers the means for philosophy to test its paradigms. |
| Installation art |
An installation in art is a hybrid form of art, spatial and site-specific. It is a temporary form of art and there is always a reciprocal 'necessary' relation between space and work, space and viewer, viewer and work. The viewer is an active element and as such part of the installation. |
| InstallationPackage |
An InstallationPackage, then, is a cluster of installations, performances and text in which the same concept is elaborated from different points of view. In Package Rhine, for example, the investigation focussed for more than two years on the concept of ‹life quality›. Sometimes, parts from one installation are re-used in another installation to make new connections. On other occasions, local inhabitants, scholars or passers-by are asked to actively participate. But at all times the inquiries circle, like a Package Tour, one specific concept. A consequence of this way of working is, that it may take several years to complete one Package, taking into account not only the results, but also the processes that lead to the results. Inevitably, philosophical reflection and documentation are intrinsically bound up with the installations and performances exhibited - just as inevitable as her work and life are closely intertwined. |
